In the next few weeks I’ll be checking out DVD and hard drive camcorders. While I may seem “stuck in the past” with min-dv tape, the reality is that in news you have to get the shot. Experimenting with new technology is fine…but not at the expense of your job.
What will I be looking for? The usual list of manual aperature, iris, white balance. Mike and headset ports. Good zoom (hopefully at least 15x). Sturdiness…anything used on a daily basis must hold up to use and abuse. You don’t always get to choose the weather or situation you’re shooting in. Compatibility with both PC & Mac platforms when downloading. Minimum thirty minute record time on whatever media the camera sends images to. Good quality video….you get the idea.
