Pettey’s article reads like a modern print reporter going after television.
And yep, stills and newsreels got along quite famously. Though after WWII there was some animosity between the two factions I’ve noted that ironically the formation of the NPPA helped to smooth over for a while. Print reporters however have always seemed to have been a thorn in the newsreeler’s sides.

Got it re the “thorn”…yet another print media person has taken on the duties of teaching journalism at the local community college and spreading the “love.” Talked w/one of her students this week who said he would NEVER go into broadcast…that he wanted to be a REAL journalist. A multi-media journalist.
