So we have leftover cardboard…

…from making the light box. What to do, what to do…

How about making a handy-dandy two-sided reflector?

What you’ll need:

  • Cardboard
  • Scissors
  • Tape
  • Foil
  • Glue
  • White board or paper.

And here we go! First photo is of the pieces of cardboard cut out of the box to make the light box.  They’ll form the foundation of our reflector(s).

Stuff needed to make the reflector shown above.

Liberally apply glue to one side of the cardboard.  Wrinkle and then flatten out the foil and smooth over the glued surface.  The wrinkled foil will scatter the light more than a flat sheet (which will make a very harsh light).  Apply more glue to the second side of the cardboard.

Cut the paper or board to fit the cardboard and press down on the glue.

Now apply tape so that it holds both the white board and foil together agains the cardboard.

This photo shows our subjects w/o any fill light.

This photo uses the white side of the reflector for fill light.

And this photo shows how it looks using the foil side of the reflector.  A little harsher light if you look at the tails and toes.
